Southern Market is a great spot for both tourists and locals.

Discover Lancaster’s 2022 promotional work included a significant focus on Lancaster City, as well as regular meetings with Lancaster Office of Promotion and several city-relate sponsorships. Consequently, the city benefited from the growth in overall county tourism during the year.


Lodging demand throughout Lancaster County was up nearly 11% in 2022 over 2021 numbers, and lodging revenue was up 25%. In terms of visitor interaction at, users were up nearly 24% over 2021 and pageviews were up over 20%.


These increases were due to continued pent-up leisure travel demand, Lancaster’s geographic, open-space, & cost advantages, and great new offerings like Southern Market, Sight & Sound’s “David,” Lancaster Science Factory’s outdoor courtyard, and the Urban Air Adventure Park.


Current or potential economic headwinds include inflation, employment, and workforce challenges, but Discover Lancaster remains hopeful that area tourism will continue to succeed in 2023 in light of our drivable location, good-value reputation, and additional fresh experiences this year.
